MTN-SWAG Awards launched

The Sports Writers Association of Ghana has launched its annual awards. 

The 41st MTN-SWAG awards which is scheduled to take place June 4 2016 at the State Banquet Hall in Accra seeks to honour sports personalities for their outstanding performances.

SWAG will confer honours on twenty-six (26) sportsmen and women drawn from the various sporting disciplines who distinguished themselves in the year under review.

Launching the event at the MTN House in Accra, the President of SWAG – Mr Kwabena Yeboah, promised an exciting night. 

The Youth and Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, described the awards as motivational. “I have never heard too many controversies after SWAG Awards and have proven one characteristic,” he said.

He added that it has always been a motivational platform for others to excel.

Among the nominees are  Andre Ayew, Asamoah Gyan, Yusif Basigi and Bashiru Hayford for the Sports Personality of the Year, Footballer of the Year, Andre Ayew, Asamoah Gyan, Harrison Afful.

The Corporate Services Executive of MTN, Mrs Cynthia Lumor, announced the package and presented a cheque of GH¢40,000.00 for the awards.
