World Bank injects $500m in Agriculture in West Africa

The World Bank is injecting 500 million dollars into agriculture in West Africa under an initiative to achieve food security in the region.   

On Monday a meeting opened in Accra at which member countries will share experiences and fashion out strategies to cut back on food shortages and unavailability in a region with one of the world's highest population growth rates.

The programme aims to upscale agricultural production in all fifteen member - ECOWAS countries - with roots and tubers, livestock, rice and  in some cases  drought-tolerant cereals expected to make the greatest contribution to agricultural growth.
