9th May, 2016 The Daily Graphic salutes all mothers for the countless efforts to nurture their families, communities, countries and the world at large. The paper uses the occasion Mother’s Day to call on both mothers and fathers to live up to their responsibilities to ensure the proper upbringing of children and the entire family. The paper believes that government and state institutions would continue to provide the necessary support for the large number of mothers in agriculture, industry, corporate institutions as well as those in small-scale industries and those who find it extremely difficult to make ends meet. The Ghanaian Times urges religious leaders not to allow politicians to use their pulpits to promote themselves. The paper says the church is made up of members of different sides of the political divide, and it would be misplaced to allow any politician the opportunity to do politics in the church. The Times says it is unfortunate that the church, which is a place of worship and communion is gradually becoming an arena for politicking. The paper believes such actions are inappropriate and bring the image of the church into disrepute. The Daily Heritage urges the Electoral Commission to strengthen its collaboration with the security agencies to arrest and jail electoral offenders. The paper says as the country prepares for the November polls, the only way to tame lawless people is to let the law work. It says anybody who misbehaves at any of the polling centres should be arrested and jailed to serve as deterrent to others. The Heritage says failure to have absolute control over the electoral processes could lead to major violence that could derail the peace of the country. GBC
