Ghanaians express different views on Professor Yankah's suggestion on duration of SHS

A Development Consultant and Policy Analyst, Togbe Tsali says he partially agrees with Professor Kwesi Yankah's suggestion on the duration of the SHS programme because although the vision is tenable it has its own problems.  According to him, if adopted the well- endowed schools would be pressurized. 

Togbe Tsali who is also Dufia of Abutia called on the Education Ministry to revisit Professor Dzobo's recommendation on Education reforms.  He said all schools should be made to run the same period and programme without any discrimination. 

Togbe Tsali however suggested that students who are good and obtain distinction should be allowed to do a three year programme while those who obtain lesser grades be made to do a four year programme.

The President of the National Council of PTAs, Alexander Yaw Danso said Professor Yankah should have held the bull by the horn, because both the three and four year SHS programmes have been practiced before.  

He said he would prefer a four year programme to enable the students appreciate knowledge better, before they proceed to tertiary institutions.  

Mr Danso called on government to come clear on the policy.

NAGRAT says all along its position on the duration of the SHS programme has not been an issue. 

According to the  Vice President of the Association, Angel Kabunu what is important is the content, the environment and appropriate  curriculum as well as teaching and learning materials for the secondary schools throughout the country.
