USAG calls on EC to extend ongoing limited voter registration exercise

The University Students' Association of Ghana, USAG, has called on the Electoral Commission to extend the ongoing limited voter registration exercise. 

It also wants the EC to increase the number of registration kits available on university  campuses to facilitate speedy and smooth process. 

This the Association believes will make the limited voter registration exercise meaningful and inclusive to achieve the goal of enfranchising new eligible voters. 

A statement signed by the President of the Association, said majority of Ghanaian students across the country, have still not been able to register. 

The statement accused the EC of failing to provide registration centres on some campuses. It said the EC did not also provide adequate registration kits on the campuses to facilitate the process. 

The statement said tertiary institutions have been inconvenienced by the way the EC has chosen to conduct the exercise. 

It added that the Commission cannot claim to be registering Ghanaians who have turned 18 and above, when in another breath, the current process prevents people from registering.
