Birth and Death Registry launch new birth registration system

The Birth and Death Registry has launched a new automated birth registration mobile phone application. 

The electronic system has become necessary following very low levels of registration of births with the current manual process. 

The system has already been piloted in fifteen areas and has seen at least 15 percent increase in the registration of births in those areas within three months. 

For the next six months, the pilot will be extended to 300 communities after which it will be rolled out nationwide.
