Accra court to serve Catholic Priest with writ An Accra Family and Juvenile Court has ordered that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs should be served with a writ filed against the Catholic Priest, Reverend Father Yves Lucien Evaga Nyana who has been accused of neglecting his fatherly duties after having a child with a 24-year old woman. This is to enable the Ministry apply to the Apostolic Nuncio for a waiver of the diplomatic immunity enjoyed by the accused priest for him to be served with the writ. Reverend Father Nyana is a Cameroonian and Director of the Biblical Centre for Africa and Madagascar at Airport Residential Area in Accra. The applicant Josephine Ganyoame, is praying the court to order the priest to subject himself to a paternity test to determine the father of the child. She is also requesting the court to make an order that the irresponsibility of the priest breaches the child’s rights as guaranteed under the Children’s Act. The applicant is further praying the court for custody of the child with reasonable access to the priest a monthly maintenance of 600 cedis. She is also requesting the court to order Rev Father Nyana to pay her an amount of GH¢50,000 as compensation for the emotional stress she had been put through by the priest. In an affidavit, the applicant averred that in October 2014, she was nearly knocked down by a vehicle being driven by the priest at East Legon in Accra. Following the incident, she became friends with Rev. Father Nyana. She claims the priest promised to assist her financially and also sponsor her education at the University. However, contrary to her expectation, the priest started harassing her sexually and finally succeeded in having sex with her. GBC
