Nkwanta South District Assembly approves DCE nominee Alfred Wukanya


The District Chief Executive nominee for the Nkwanta South District Assembly, Alfred Kofi Wukanya has been approved by the Assembly Members of the area. 

Mr. Wukanya polled 34 out of 42 votes cast in an election supervised by the District Electoral Officer, Alfred Amedeker. 

The approval of the DCE brings joy and sigh of relief to the people of Nkwanta South who have been without a substantive DCE since the murder of the then DCE, Peter Kenyenso in November 2014 by unknown assailants. 

Before his confirmation, the Volta Regional Minister, Helen Adzoa Ntoso was the acting DCE of the district. 

A minute's silence was observed in honor of the the late Peter Kenyenso. 

Speaking at the inauguration, the Deputy Volta Regional Minister, Francis Ganyaglo challenged the DCE to embrace the confidence reposed in him by the President and the Assembly Members by putting in place all necessary measures to bring development to the area. 

He urged them to collaborate with the DCE so that together they can move the district forward. Mr. Ganyaglo adviced the DCE to always be in consultation with the chiefs and of opinion leaders who play a key role in the local government system. He called for peace before, during and after this year's general elections. 

The new DCE, Alfred Wukanya who is a retired teacher pledged to promote peace and unity among the people in the district to bring about the needed socio-economic development in the area. 

He also pledged to improve on education especially girl child education in the district in order to empower them to contribute to the development of the nation. 

The MP for the area, Gershon Gbediame notes that the confirmation of the DCE will pave the way for the district to enjoy their own share of the national cake. 

He disclosed that plans are far advanced to empower cassava farmers in the the area to avert post-harvest loses.
