Teacher Unions And Government Meeting To Finalise Discussions On Unpaid Salaries And Allowances

Teacher Unions and government are in a crunch meeting to finalise issues regarding the non-payment of salaries to a section of teachers as well as arrears of some of them. 

The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Education Service, Rev Jonathan Bettey who disclosed this to Radio Ghana expressed the hope of arriving at an amicable conclusion.

Rev Bettey discounts news making the rounds that some teachers have been dismissed for presenting fake certificates. 

He explained that the case is still under investigation by the BNI.

Meanwhile, teacher unions, the Employment and Labour Relations Ministry and the Ghana Education Service are in a crunch meeting in Accra over the teachers' concerns. 

The GES believes the issue is not about the non-availability of money but the need to do due diligence, but the affected unions also say they have submitted their relevant documents and do not need to do anything further. 

An affected teacher in Brong Ahafo, John Koomson said he is owed sixteen months’ salary arrears. 

He admitted the need for due diligence but said the situation is affecting teachers morale as well as teaching and learning.
