EC must compile a new and credible register for this year`s elections-member of  NPP, Kwame Boafo 

A member of the NPP, Kwame Boafo has filed a writ at the Supreme Court challenging the eligibility of the voters` register intended to be used for the 2016 general election.  

The case of the plaintiff is that the current voters` register compiled by the Electoral Commission, is filled with names of persons who are not constitutionally eligible to vote.   

According to Mr. Boafo, the register contains names of persons who registered with NHIS cards.  

He also contends that the five member VCRAC Crabbe Committee which investigated the credibility of the voters` register recommended that the EC compiles a completely new and credible register to be used in the 2016 general elections.  

The plaintiff however claims the EC failed to comply with the directive and he is therefore invoking the original jurisdiction of the court to order the Commission to compile a new and credible register for this year`s elections.  

The Supreme Court has ordered the EC and the Attorney General to file their  defence within fourteen days.
