WACAM proposes establishment of Minerals Board to advise on mining policies

A Civil society Organisation in mining, WACAM, has proposed the setting up of minerals Advisory Board that will see to enacting mining policies, contracts and ensuring rights for minerals. 

The Board, it says should be made up of representatives from mining communities, CSOs and state regulators.  

This will address the issue of conflicts between communities and mining companies, human rights abuses and excessive powers invested in the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources as contained in the Mineral and Mining Act.
