Gov't Meets Organised Labour This Afternoon Government is expected to meet with organised labour this afternoon to discuss a possible reduction in utility prices and the removal of the Energy Sector levy. Government before Tuesday's demonstration by the labour unions had appealed to organised labour to stay its demonstration as it plans to marginally reduce the prices of utilities but labour refused to heed to the appeal because it did not receive any official document on the government proposal. The demonstration by organised labour was occasioned by the upward adjustment in the prices of utilities announced by the PURC. The PURC announced 59 point two percent increment for electricity and 67 point two percent for water. These, according to Organised Labour is therefore proposing 50 percent each for water and electricity. The labour unions are also demanding that organised labour are astronomical considering the number of taxes that government has introduced. Government withdraw the Energy Sector Levy Act 899, which has occasioned very steep increases in prices of petroleum products at a time when crude oil prices on the international market are declining.
