Organised Labour Demonstrate Nationwide Against High Taxes And Utility Tariffs Organised Labour Wednesday led a nationwide demonstration against hikes in utility tariffs and the Energy Sector Levy. The demonstration according to Labour is to express the displeasure of workers against the general cost of living. In Accra, hundreds of workers were led by the Secretary General of the TUC, Kofi Asamoah in a three hour demonstration. Labour Unions in Tema converged on the TMA forecourt to join their counterparts in Accra for the nationwide organised labour demonstration. Clad in red bands, they carried placards with inscriptions like “Mahama How”, “Reduce the tariffs now” among others. Meanwhile, activities at Courts in Accra were halted following the declaration of the nationwide strike by organised labour. Staff of the Judicial Service joined in the strike leaving patrons of the courts stranded. The Supreme Court however sat to hear cases. At the new Court Complex in Accra, security personnel at the premises prevented people from entering the various courts. Some lawyers were also prevented from accessing the courts. GBC
