15 Teachers, nurses detained at Flagstaff House Fifteen teachers and nurses yet to be posted are said to have been detained by the Regional Police Command for picketing at the seat of government, the Flagstaff House. They were arrested for what the police say was a breach of the Public Order Act. According to the law enforcement agents, the demonstrators did not get clearance from them before embarking on the demonstration. The teachers and nurses were demanding immediate posting after completing their training months ago. According to the Greater Accra Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Afia Tenge, the protesters were about 50 by the time the police arrived at the scene. She said the commander DCOP Dr. George Dampare persuaded them to recoil, but failed to heed his advice. “Fifteen of them were arrested and are being questioned at the command,” ASP Tenge told an Accra Based FM, Starr News’ on Monday. The police managed to disperse the remaining protesters. SOURCE: Starr FM News
