Acting Garrison Commander appeals for peaceful 2016 elections


The Acting Garrison Commander of the third Infantry Battalion, Lt Col Daniel Adjetey, has made a passionate appeal to all politicians and other stakeholders to endeavor to make this year election a battle of ideas rather than that of cudgels, machetes, guns and other offensive weapons. 

He urged vigilante groups that may be contemplating fomenting violence during the elections to rather channel their energies in ensuring that the polls are conducted in a peaceful atmosphere. 

Lt Col Adjetey was speaking at the Annual West African Soldiers Social Activities popularly known as WASSA at the Liberation Barracks in Sunyani. 

The occasion is used to take stock of activities in the year, feast and reward hardworking soldiers and civilian employees of the Ghana Armed Forces. 

This year's WASSA of the Third Garrison featured swimming, changing parade, stripping and assembling of weapons competition, poetry recitals, eating and dancing as well as music from a live band.  

The Acting Commander of the third Infantry Battalion, Lt Col Daniel Adjetey assured Ghanaians that the Armed Forces shall never renege on their constitutional mandate to ensure that this year’s polls are conducted in a secured environment. 

Lt Col Adjetey was optimistic that with togetherness Ghana can conduct a peaceful and successful elections.  

He expressed concern about the expansion of the reign of terror and recruitment activities of extremist groups like Boko Haram and ISIL within the sub-Region of West African. 

The Commander said they are not lowering their guard due to the security threats and called on the general public to join the campaign to protect the nation from falling into the clutches of terrorism.  

Lt Col Adjetey pledged on behalf of the officers to contribute to a peaceful election year in Bono-Ahafo. On the operational front, he said the Battalion was able to successfully accomplish all missions and tasks assigned to it and mentioned Kukuom, Portor and Tuobodom as some of Areas they helped to save life and property.  

Lt Col Adjetey pointed out that their operations along the borders have picked up pace to deal with the activities of suspected dissidents as well as those who take advantage of the porous nature of the country’s borders for their nefarious activities.  

He further encouraged the officers to work hard as it will enhance their chances of winning awards and promotions. 

The Commander was thankful to the Ghana Police Service for their cooperation and collaboration with the military to keep the security situation in the Region under control security. 

The Berekum MCE, Boakye Yiadom who deputized for the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Eric Opoku commended the Officers for ensuring peace and security in the Region and the country as a whole. 

He appealed to them to continue to protect the people of Brong-Ahafo and ensure that we have a peaceful election. 

The Minister seized the opportunity to debunk rumors that President Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama are behind some of the collapsed Micro Finance Companies in the Region.
