11th January, 2016 The Ghanaian Times calls for an immediate investigation into what in its view are wasteful projects in the Central Region. According to the paper about fifty-six out of eight hundred and sixty-five completed projects in the Region are not in use due to the failure of the District assemblies to conduct proper needs assessment in the areas. The paper says some completed projects in the Central Region have become white elephants because members of the community were not consulted before their implementation. The Today newspaper urges government to justify the need for Ghanaians to continue paying taxes especially when the people are not benefitting directly from them. The paper says there are still communities in Ghana which have schools under trees, bad roads, lack of hospitals and potable water yet the Central Government demands more monies through taxes. The paper believes government has not used taxes of the people judiciously. The paper says within a period of three years, the administration has come up with several taxes in different shades all with the excuse that they want to develop mother Ghana. The paper calls on government to widen the tax net instead of overburdening the few tax payers with extra payments. GBC
