President Mahama calls on Chiefs to help step up public education on fires President John Mahama has called on Chiefs to help step up public education on fires in the country. His call comes after some fire incidents were recorded few days into the new year. The President said the severity of this year’s harmattan has the potential of triggering a number of fire outbreaks. Speaking at a meeting with the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State Togbe Afede, President Mahama recalled the situation in 1983, where the country suffered drought leading to acute shortage in food supply. President Mahama said some farmers may deliberately set fires to clear the vegetation ahead of the rainy season expected in June and urged Chiefs to use their influence to prevent such possible disasters.
