9th January, 2016 The Daily Graphic expresses worry about the perception that the EC is always in bed with the ruling party, while the opposition parties see the EC as working against their interests. The Graphic thinks that in the interest of free and fair polls, the EC should do something urgent to build trust between it and all the political parties and their supporters. It says, it will be the last to support any move to stampede the EC in the discharge of its duties. The Graphic therefore appeals to the political parties to co-operate with the EC to put in place a credible voters register. The Ghanaian Times says it is the first to admit that the recent increase in both fuel and utility tariffs have dire consequences for individual workers and businesses and would have wished they were never increased at all. The paper urges government to convene a tripartite committee meeting with Organised Labour and employers to resolve the issues quickly. The paper refers to a statement from Organised Labour that seems to criticize Parliament for the manner it went about the promulgation of the Energy Sector Levy, which in its view has brought untold hardships on Ghanaians.
