Government Undertakes Quality Improvement In 125 Low Performing Schools Across The Country President John Mahama has inaugurated the second Senior High School under the community day school project at Bamiankor in the Western Region. The school, Ogwiraman SHS is one of the community day schools being established by government to help solve the challenge of high enrolment at the senior high school level as against inadequate number of schools to accommodate students. At the inauguration ceremony, which had in attendance the Western Regional Minister, Paul Evans Aidoo and the Education Minister Prof. Naana Opoku-Agyeman, President Mahama said there are five more schools to be inaugurated to make the project stronger. He said government is also undertaking quality improvement in 125 existing but low-performing schools across the country with special focus on science and mathematics. These projects, the President said, are but a few to confirm governments commitment to improving quality education across board. President Mahama also touched on the issue of employment, saying the community day school project will provide teaching and non-teaching job opportunities for many in the beneficiary communities. He said people in communities must be involved in every aspect of development. Meanwhile, Commenting on government`s plans of recruiting nine thousand teachers in the education sector, a Political Marketing Strategist, Dr. Koby Mensah says what matters most is not the recruitment of personnel but how to institute a sustainable motivation mechanism for teachers. Speaking Radio Ghana, Dr. Mensah suggested that a regular capacity building programme should be instituted for teachers to sustain their interest and enhance their skills. GBC
