13 arrested for indulging in in-house illegal mining at Konongo The Konongo-Odumase police in Ashanti have arrested 13 people suspected of engaging in in-house illegal mining. The suspects were arrested in a swoop at Nana Ayaase's residence at Odumase, a house which has five pits as at last Friday. In-house mining involves the digging of holes in homes to enable the miners to enter the bowels of the earth in search of gold. The 13 brings to 28 the number of people arrested at Odumase within the past two months for engaging in in-house mining. During the swoop, the police seized 15 mini sacks suspected to contain gold. The Konongo-Odumase District Police Commander, Superintendent Ibrahim Sulley, said the police will sustain the operation to rid the area of in-house mining.
