Australian High Commissioner  bids farewell to Ghana


Vice President Kwesi Amissah Arthur says the government is delivering a program to ensure that there is greater local content in the mining sector to reduce reliance on imported labour and also develop the mining communities. 

He said government is focusing on the sector because it is one of the areas which can provide more meaningful jobs to Ghanaians. 

Vice President Amissah Arthur said this when the outgoing Australian High Commissioner to Ghana, Joana Adamson called on him at the Flagstaff House to bid  farewell. 

Mr Amissah Arthur reiterated the need to add-value to the country's raw material exports especially gold in order to derive much rippling benefit from it.

High Commissioner Adamson expressed Australia's gratitude to Ghana for supporting her bid to become a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. 

She said responsible gold mining cannot be talked about without mentioning Australia. Her country will therefore continue to work with Ghana to fashion out policies to enhance operations in the sector.
