Rice Sector To Be Improved To Create More Jobs - Minister Rice is said to be the second highest consumed cereal. Currently, the country produces one million metric tonnes of the commodity annually. However, this leaves the country with a huge deficit considering the quantity of rice the over fourteen million Ghanaians consume. Ghana spends over five hundred million dollars annually to import rice. At the launch of the second national rice festival in Accra, Food and Agriculture Minister, Fiifi Kwetey, said government recognises the ability of the rice sector to create jobs and improve the economy.
