National Labour Commission Directs GMA To Call Off Strike Immediately The National Labour Commission has directed the Ghana Medical Association to call off its strike immediately. A statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Dr Mrs. Bernice Welbeck, said Government and GMA should also resume negotiations and report to the Commission on Monday at 4:00pm. The Commission issued the directive after a meeting with the employer represented by the Ministries of Health, Employment and Labour Relations, the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the Ghana Health Service on one hand and the Ghana Medical Association, GMA on the other hand on Wednesday. The statement said the Commission having heard the parties appreciates the difficulties of both sides and directs both parties to cease all media engagements forthwith. Meanwhile, the National Executive Committee of the Ghana Medical Association, GMA has dismissed speculations in the media about divisions among members of the association. In a statement issued in Accra, the GMA asked the public to disregard the rumours as it is a deliberate attempt by detractors to create divisions on the association’s front. The statement further said speculations that there is a breakaway group in the association are vile and should be treated as propaganda. The GMA said there have been various threats on its members since the association made a decision to withdraw its services to the public. The GMA has urged its members to remain resolute and support the leadership in its quest to secure negotiated and signed conditions of service. GBC
