Finance Minister Projects Positive Outlook For Ghanaian Economy Into The Future

The Minister of Finance, Seth Terkper says the outlook of the overall economy is brighter.  He said government will maintain the gains so far and continue the transformation of the economy and consolidate the country as a middle income economy.  

He attributed  the performance of the economy largely due to prudent measures such as ensuring fiscal discipline, improvement in the Agricultural and Industrial sectors as well as revenues received from the Oil Sector. 

Mr. Terkper stated this when he presented the mid year budget review in Parliament with the appreciation of the cedi, government is on target in achieving its set goals.

Mr. Terkper said the successful negotiation with the IMF has led to a three year fiscal consolidation support by the IMF, and confidence in the economy has been restored.

Highlights:

- Mr. Seth Terkper cautioned MMDAs not to over spend within budgetary allocations.

- That the economy has improved significantly since the beginning of the year. This he said is due to the prudent management of the economy.

- Mr. Terkper said the period under review has recorded mixed performance. 

- That the balance of payment will reduce from 8 percent of GDP to 7.3 percent.

- The Finance Minister also announced the progress being made by the President to fix the energy crisis.
