Five jailed 15 years each for robbery

Five persons have been sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment each for robbery. 

They attacked students of the Islamic University in Accra with guns and cutlasses and robbed them of their mobile phones. 

The convicts are Anthony Galley, Amewuga Kumafu, Richard Tenyuie, Richard Korley and Akwasi Aikins.

The facts of the case are that on the 16th of April, at about 12:30 am, the students were sitting in front of their hostel playing with their phones when the five convicts attacked them and threatened to shoot and also slash them if they did not surrender their mobile phones.

Out of fear, the students handed over their phones to the convicts and bolted. 

One of the students who had gone to lodge a complaint with the police identified Galley who had then been arrested for another robbery offence.

Galley admitted the offence and led the police to arrest the other four accomplices at Agbobloshie in Accra.
