Ga Traditional Council backs slum demolition exercise The Ga Traditional Council has hailed the demolition of illegal structures by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) at Old Fadama. According to the Council, the exercise is overdue. At a news briefing in Accra, the Korle-Gonno Noyaa Mantse, Nii Yaatey Obedro said the government should do everything possible to ensure that those displaced persons are relocated appropriately or helped to return to their hometowns. He said the activities at Old Fadama have deprived a lot of Ga's who depend on fishing in the Odaw River their livelihood. He also condemned the unruly behaviour of the squatters who went about vandalising state property. The Council therefore called for all those who have been arrested in connection with the protest to be dealt with decisively. The Council said the demolition exercise should not end till all illegal structures are removed. It also called on politicians not to interfere with the exercise and should stop making provocative comments on the demolition. GBC
