Brong Ahafo Region: 27 Districts get access to potable water as Prez Mahama inaugurates new water system

Twenty-Seven Districts in the Brong Ahafo Region will now have access to potable water with the inauguration of a new water system.

President John Mahama did the inauguration at a ceremony in Berekum.

The inauguration of the water projects at Fententaa and Ntotoroso fall under the Peri-urban Rural and Small town water and sanitation project being implemented across the country at a cost of 21 million euros. 

President Mahama noted that the initiative is part of
government's vision to achieve a hundred percent rural water coverage by 2025. 

The projects in the region comprise 15 small town water supply system, 700 boreholes and 19 hand dug wells with hand pumps.

To ensure that the projects are well maintained to ensure efficiency, mechanics have been trained from the area to provide maintenance.

Residents of Fententaa and Ntotoroso before the coming into being of these projects relied on streams for water consumption. 

President John Mahama stated that the short term vision of government is to achieve 75 percent rural water access by the end of this year. 

He commended the Chiefs and people of Berekum for settling outstanding chieftaincy disputes adding that it would pave way for more development.

The Chief of Berekum, Daasebre Dr Amankona Diawuo, made mention of some school projects and cocoa roads in the district that need immediate attention. 

He also expressed gratitude to the President for the
frequent visits and ongoing projects. 

President Mahama is the first sitting President to visit the town.

Government is embarking on a 20,000 bore hole project across the country.
