Vice President Amissah-Arthur implores industries to prevent accidents at workplace

The Third Biennial National Safety Conference by the Bureau of Public Safety has been held in Tema with a call on industries to ensure that pragmatic measures are put in place to prevent accidents at the workplace.

The Minister of Transport, Mrs Dzifa Attivor in a speech read on behalf of the Vice President, Kwesi Amissah Arthur called on the Factory Inspectorate Division to ensure that industries abide by work safety requirements. 

This she said will help prevent the loss of life and property resulting from workplace accidents. 

Mrs Attivor said the government will ensure that the Occupational Health and Safety Policy Legislation is passed by Parliament to safeguard the Ghanaian worker. 

The Policy when passed will ensure that a healthy and safe work environment is created for workers to increase productivity.

The Executive Director of the Bureau of Public Safety, Nana Yaw Akwada said the biennial conference which was instituted in 2011 has so far attracted more than one hundred organisations.

He said it has further educated practitioners on current trends in the fields of public and occupational safety consistently challenging the realms of practice and legality.
