Gender Ministry Encourages Fathers to Create Excellent Environment to Enhance Child Development, As World Marks Father's Day The Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection extends warm felicitations to all fathers on this occasion of Fathers’ Day. It says it recognises the role fathers play in the family as leaders of the home. These roles are many and are critical to the sustenance of the home. In a statement to mark Father's Day, the Ministry said Fathers are far more than just ‘second adults’ in the home and they influence their children through the quality of their relationship with the children's mother. It is believed that a father who develops good relationship with the mother of his children is more likely to be involved in spending quality time with the children. Apart from paying school fees and other bills to keep the family going, the Ministry is encouraging Fathers to work to create a conducive environment in the home for their children. This will help keep the family together and instill confidence in the children. In 2014, as many as Seven Thousand Two Hundred and 59 maintenance cases were reported to the Department, with the men the guiltiest. As the world and Ghanaians mark Fathers’ Day, the ministry implores fathers to be more responsive to the needs of their children. Meanwhile, the Gender Ministry is planning to establish a child support unit that will ensure that parents are made to provide support for their children. This will curb the challenges of maintenance issues in Ghana. GBC
