Maxwell Kofi Jumah arrested by Police for disrupting voting in Asokwa Constituency


Reports reaching GBC Online says Maxwell Kofi Jumah has been arrested by the Police for disrupting voting in Asokwa Constituency, where he is contesting the incumbent Patricia Appiagyei. 

According to the report, Maxwell Kofi Jumah, a former Member of Parliament for Asokwa Constituency in the Ashanti Region was arrested for destroying electoral materials.

Mr. Jumah who is seeking a return to the legislature was handcuffed and whisked away by the police supervising the New Patriotic Party parliamentary primary in the constituency.

The report is not clear what might have influenced the former MP, popularly known as Kofi Ghana, to have taken the law into his hands.

Mr. Jumah is engaged in a fierce two-horse race with the sitting MP Patricia Appiagyei who took over the former’s seat in the last primary which was characterized by provocations.


Meanwhile, voting is underway in the Bono-Ahafo Region.  

Out of the 29 Constituencies in the Region, 28 are voting as Kintampo North has had its primaries put on hold for now.  

Three Constituencies, Sunyani West, Jaman North and Asutifi North, all have sitting MP's, who are going unopposed. In all 14, 570 Delegates are expected to cast their ballots.
 
The real action is happening in 25 Constituencies with a host of hopefuls vying for the Party's Parliamentary Candidature.  

Radio Ghana witnessed the start of voting at the Pastoral Centre where the contest for the Sunyani East Constituency is taking place.  

For Sunyani East a total of 781 Delegates are expected to cast their votes in one of the closest  races in the entire exercise, which pits the current MP Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh against George Kumi, one time Ghana's Ambassador to Libya.  

Another hot race drawing much attention is the contest in The Tano South where the only female MP in the NPP's ranks in Bono-Ahafo Frieda Prempeh is being given a run for her money by a challenger by name, Kusi Duah Ernest.  

The Teciman North Constituency's Primaries has the most contestants with seven individuals jostling for the position.  

Banda Constituency also has six contestants while Nkoranza South and Tano South have five contestants each.  

When Radio Ghana visited the Techiman South Centre, an hour into the voting 159 out of a roll of 819, had cast their ballots.  

The exercise is due to end at three pm when counting of votes and declaration of results will take place.
