Vice-President Amissah-Arthur assures investors of continued political stability in Ghana The Vice-President, Mr. Kwesi Bekoe Amissah on Thursday told a visiting American Investment Delegation that the various stakeholders in the political process remained committed to protecting the country's multi-party democracy. This, he said, was informed by the fact that multi-party democracy remained the only viable option of attracting investors and sustaining their confidence in the country's economy. He said this when a three man delegation from Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) led by its Managing Director, Mr Steven Johnston called on him at the Flagstaff House. . According to the Vice-President, a congenial political atmosphere which was not punctuated by upheavals constituted the most important factor attracting foreign investment. He informed the delegation that the change of government through the ballot box had been acknowledged by the electorate as the best form of governance since the dawn of the Fourth Republic in 1992. Mr. Amissah-Arthur said Ghanaians were strongly convinced that no investor will commit his capital to invest in unstable political regimes and for that matter would strive at all times to sustain the democratic process. He said the government and the people would also not take the peace and stability that the country was enjoying for granted and would always safeguard it. The Vice-President told the investors that the country's investment code was friendly and flexible and guaranteed good returns on their investment. He, however, enjoyed them to continue to invest in areas of job creation to offer more employment opportunities to the people especially the youth. Mr. Amissah-Arthur said the issue of job creation has been uppermost in the scheme of activities of the government which was seeking partnership with the private sector to address it. He also briefed the delegation about the tragedy which befell the nation last Wednesday describing it as sorrowful and shocking. For his part, Mr. Johnston thanked the Vice-President for the warm reception accorded him and the delegation and assured that his company will continue to invest in the country's economy into the foreseeable future. He touted the country's democratic profile stressing that Ghana still remained the bastion of democracy in the Sub-Saharan Africa. Mr Johnston agreed with the Vice-President that investors were always looking for safe areas devoid of upheavals to invest their capital and stressed that Ghana fell into that category of political stable economies.
