More Needs To Be Done To Tackle Sickle Cell Disease – GHS

The Deputy Director-General of Ghana Health Service, Dr Gloria Quansah says although some progress has been made to tackle Sickle Cell Disease, more needs to be done in its detection and management.  

This is because presently, Sickle Cell cases in the country are on the ascendency with two percent of children born having traits and dying before age five because of late diagnosis.  

Dr Quansah said education must be intensified especially in genetic counselling of parents, families and the public.  

She made these comments at the First Genetic Education and Counselling for Sickle Cell Conditions, GENECIS, in Accra.
