Eritrea 'ruled by fear' - UN Report A year-long UN human rights inquiry says Eritrea may have committed crimes against humanity. A report published today cited extrajudicial killings, widespread torture, sexual slavery and enforced labour. The 484-page report of the UN Commission of Inquiry said the human rights violations were and are being committed under the authority of the government. The Commission therefore concludes that the government is accountable for the widespread torture. The report said Eritrea enslaves people by a system known as "national service", but which really involves arbitrary detention, torture, forced labour and absence of leave. NEWS24
