Loose Valves Caused Goil Filling Station Explosion – GNFS The Ghana National Fire Service says its preliminary investigations into the explosion at the GOIL fuel station at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle have revealed that some valves were not properly tightened leading to the explosion. The explosion and the flood last Wednesday evening led to the death of close to 150 people. Officials of the GNFS are yet to reveal the exact number of people who lost their lives. The Deputy Public Relations Officer of the GNFS, Billy Anaglatey told Radio Ghana that the failure to tighten the valves of the fuel storage bay by the fuel attendants allowed the fuel to float on the surface of the flood water, which came into contact with naked fire 100 meters away from the station. He said their investigations revealed that running water entered the underground tank and because of density factor, it went under the fuel and pushed it up. Meanwhile, Ghana Oil, GOIL says it is scandalised by the explosion at its fuel station at the Kwame Nkrumah circle which has claimed more than one hundred lives. A statement from the board on behalf of management and staff says they share in the pain of all the families and friends who lost their loved ones to the fire. It said though it has lost eight of its staff, they are fully committed to partnering stakeholders in investigating the cause of the disaster. GBC
