Fifa sponsors welcome Sepp Blatter's resignation

Many of FIFA's multi-million dollar sponsors have praised Sepp Blatter's decision to step down. U.S. soft drink maker, Coca-Cola, said the move is a positive step for the good of sport, football and its fans.

It says expectation remains that FIFA will continue to act with urgency to take concrete actions, to fully address all of the issues that have been raised and win back the trust of all who love the sport of football.

The company added that the decision will help FIFA transform itself rapidly into a much-needed 21st-century structure and institution.

Other sponsors, Budweiser, Adidas and McDonald's, also issued broadly positive statements. 

According to them, they expect the announcement to accelerate FIFA's effort to resolve internal issues, install positive change and adhere to the highest ethical standards and transparency so as to gain back trust from fans worldwide.
