President Mahama lauds Africa's Socio-Economic Potential Despite Challenges President John Dramani Mahama says Africa holds enviable prospects for economic and social transformation despite the challenges facing the continent. He has therefore charged those who associate gloom with Africa to revise their notes and explore the numerous potential that abound in the region. Speaking at the Oxford African Conference in the UK, President Mahama cited the huge technology inroads being made by many countries, as an indication of the continent's readiness to fully exploit the technology age, citing Ghana as a case in point. President Mahama decried artificial borders, religious intolerance and other forms of violence, which he believes constitute a major threat to African unity and integration. President Mahama said Africa must tell its own success story instead of leaving it in the hands of others, a situation he said has distorted the true history of the continent. Meanwhile, an International Relations Expert, Irbard Ibrahim says though President Mahama's address at the Oxford University on the potential of Africa was inspiring, the continent still has a lot to do to position itself for accelerated economic growth. In an interview with Radio Ghana, Mr. Ibrahim said it will take more of such lectures to change the negative perception the West has about Africa.
