Meeting between Police and NUGS Executives over planned demonstration ends in deadlock 

The Leadership of National Union of Ghana Students and the Accra Regional Police Command are deadlocked over the planned demonstration by students on Friday.  

The students intend hitting the streets of Accra to protest proposed payment of utility tariffs.

But it appears the demonstration may not come off on that day as the police say the day is not convenient for them.  

A meeting between the police and the students on Monday ended inconclusively.  

But General Secretary of NUGS, Iddi Muhayu-Deen told Radio Ghana that they are meeting the Regional Commander again to agree on a date.

Mr Muhayu-Deen accused the Education Ministry of giving conflicting information regarding the proposed payment of the utility tariffs.  

According to him, once the ministry refuses to make a written commitment not to compel students to pay utility tariffs, nothing will stop them from demonstrating.
