Freddie Blay in NPP 'Coup' Deny As Vetting of NPP Parliamentary Aspirants Continues

The First National Vice - Chairman of the NPP, Freddie Blay has dismissed claims that the last emergency steering committee meeting of the Party without the National chairman and General Secretary was a coup.
 
He told Radio Ghana that the meeting was convened within the stipulations of the Party`s constitution. He  rejected claims that the meeting was called in bad faith.

Meanwhile, the New Patriotic Party has deployed nine national officers to the regions to oversee the vetting of its parliamentary aspirants. 

This was among many other decisions taken at an Emergency Steering Committee meeting at the party's Headquaters in the absence of the both the National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana the Director of elections of the NPP, Mensah Korsah said the vetting process has so far been very smooth.

In a related development, a member of the Communications Team of the NPP, Michael Ampong, has raised some questions about the emergency meeting held yesterday.  

Speaking on the Uniiq Breakfast Drive, he said though the meeting had a constitutional basis, the absence of the Party`s National Chairman and General Secretary leaves much to be desired.  

He was of the conviction that the conveners of the meeting had an agenda that is why it was held without the blessing of the two National Executives.  

Mr. Ampong also alleged that the earlier names submitted to vet Parliamentary  candidates have been substituted.

A member of the NDC Legal team, David Annan, says he will not be surprised if any member of the NPP takes the Executive Committee of the Party  to court for breach of the NPP Constitution. 

Also, a Political Scientist, Dr. Alidu Seidu, has commented on the Emergency NPP steering committee meeting held yesterday at which the National chairman and General Secretary were absent.  

Speaking to Radio Ghana, Dr. Seidu said the situation has a negative consequence on internal party unity, saying it also gives credence to the perception that, the Akufo-Addo and Alan Kyeremanten factions are still struggling to control the party.

Dr. Seidu indicated that the earlier the party closes its ranks and work towards a united goal, winning the 2016 elections will be a mirage.
