Energy Crisis: Over 12000 workers to lose jobs by July  

More than twelve thousand workers are likely to lose their jobs by the end of July this year if the government does not do anything to address the erratic power crises.  

Addressing workers of organised labour in Tema, the chairman of the Tema District Council of Labour, Wilson Agana, asked President John Mahama’s administration to give a listening ear to the pleas of organized labour and address the energy problems to save industries in Tema and the country at large. 

He indicated that the government must take a political decision to address the concerns of organized labour before the situation compels some industries to shut down. 

Mr. Agana warned of a potential chaos if urgent steps are not taken to reduce utility prices.

The atmosphere at the forecourt of the Tema Metropolitan Assembly was charged with workers clad in red, carrying placards with inscriptions, such as, “Dumsor oooo Dumsor, ‘’When will the Dumsor End,” and Companies need power to work”. 

Speaking to Radio Ghana, the Tema Regional Officer of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, Eleazer Nyaunu, noted that though the economy is facing challenges, there is the need to generate more revenue to stabilize the situation.
