Ministry warns SHS to stop charging two-term fees

The Ministry of Education has warned Heads of Senior High Schools (SHS) to stop charging fees for two terms and insisting that parents pay same before their wards are admitted for the term’s academic work.  

The Ministry says its attention has been brought to this and wants to make it clear to such Heads that, it is against government's policy and directives earlier circulated on Senior High Education.

In a statement it says parents should resist such payments but come to the Ministry to report any Head engaged in the act. It says government has also  set up a special committee chaired by Deputy Minister  for Pre-Tertiary Education with membership drawn from the Ghana Education Service Council, Attorney General’s Department and the Economic and Organised Crime Office to investigate the matter.  

The Committee’s terms of reference also includes verifying the reports of second and third term charges, charging of unapproved fees and to recommending appropriate sanctions.   

The Committee is to report to the Minister by the end of the month.
