Six ECG officials in Ashanti face interdiction 

The Minister for Power, Dr Kwabena Donkor has directed the Board of the Electricity Company of Ghana, ECG to interdict six persons over the burning of over 25 thousand new pre-paid meters in the Ashanti Region. 

The meters worth about two million dollars were kept at a private warehouse located at Oduom Bebre where the incident happened.

Though the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained, officials of ECG say they suspect arson and have subsequently lodged a complaint with the Police for investigations. But the Police say they are waiting for a Fire Service report indicating a possible arson before they can commence investigations. 

A statement signed by the Communications consultant at the Energy Ministry, Edward Bawa, says the sector minister will inaugurate a Committee of Inquiry early next week to fully investigate the cause of the fire outbreak and make recommendations to forestall future occurrences.  

It says the officials have been asked to step aside to ensure successful investigation, adding that there were certain officers who were directly involved in ensuring that the warehouse is operated   under some safe conditions and ensuring that the investment that has been put there is properly safeguarded. 

The interdicted officials are the Acting General Manager, Emmanuel Akinie, the Asokwa District Manager, Yakubu Harrison, the Regional Commercial Manager, Michael Boadu, the GEDAP two prepayment project manager, Kwadwo Ayensu, the materials and Transport Director, Alhaji Daubi Alhassan Jango and the Project Accountant, Samuel Ofori.
