Elvis Afriyie Ankrah Told Commission that Decision to Airlift Cash to Brazil was not Unilateral One 

Former Youth and Sports Minister Elvis Afriyie Ankrah today/yesterday told the Commission of Enquiry into Ghana's participation in the recent World Cup that the decision to airlift cash to Brazil was not a unilateral one. 

He said the state would have incurred an additional 17 percent bank charges if players were paid through the banks.  

Beside he consulted National Security, the Governor of the Bank of Ghana and Ghana's Ambassador to Brazil before the cash was airlifted.  

Mr. Afriyie Ankrah however opted to give the details in camera.  

He added that all attempts to get the players to back down in their demand for an increase in appearance fee proved futile as the players cited many reasons for their demand.

Asked of his general impression at the time things seemed abnormal in Brazil, Mr. Afriyie Ankrah broke down in tears but was consoled by Commissioner Justice Senyo Dzemefe.
