Substandard goods to be confiscated effective October 1

Effective October 1 this year, importers whose goods are sub-standard will have their items confiscated by the Ghana Standards Authority. 

This comes after the launch of the Ghana Conformity Assessment Programme, G-CAP which seeks to eliminate hazards associated with substandard goods brought into the country for consumption. 

Addressing stakeholders at the launch of G-CAP in Accra, the Executive Director of the Ghana Standards Authority, Dr George Crenstil stressed that importers who fail to provide certificate of conformity will pay a fine and also undergo vigorous inspection to ascertain the quality of the goods before they are released.
