Nana Addo Appeals For Calm In NPP Following Violence At Party's Headquarters

The 2012 flagbearer of the NPP, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, has appealed to NPP supporters and officials to remain calm and focused, and desist from actions that might undermine the unity of the party and compromise its chances for success in 2016. 

In a statement, Nana Akufo-Addo said like all well-meaning members of the NPP, he has noticed with deep regret the events that took place on Tuesday at the party's Headquarters during the press conference addressed by the National Chairman of the party, Paul Afoko which ended in incidents of violence. 

He said the NPP is one family and should find a way to deal with issues in a satisfactory manner. 

The statement urges all NPP members to promote things that bring togetherness and eschew those that seek to divide the party. 

He said the party must always be guided and guarded by an uncompromising sense of unity, fellowship and greater purpose. 

Meanwhile, the National Chairman of the NPP, Paul Afoko has asked party members and sympathizers to desist from acts that tarnish the image of the party. 

He said washing the party's dirty linen in public has the potential of marring the progress the party is making ahead of the 2016 elections. 

Mr Afoko said this after a violent confrontation by some irate youth of the NPP at the party's national headquarters in Accra on Tuesday. 

The violence started right after a news conference addressed by the General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong. 

In a related development, pollster and editor of the Daily Dispatch Newspaper, Ben Ephson says the mudslinging associated with the Nana Addo and Alan Kyerematen factions is an issue that should be critically looked at to forestall further divisiveness within the party. 

Speaking on to Radio Ghana, he said the current impasse is underpinned by factionalism which is creating room for varied interpretations. 

According to Mr Ephson if the wranglings continue, it will lead to voter apathy when the national delegate’s conference takes place in a few weeks to come.
