KNUST intensifies public education on campus to sensitise university community to Ebola

The Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi says it is satisfied with the measures so far taken to prevent an outbreak of the Ebola disease on its campus.

Speaking to the GBC in Kumasi, the Deputy Registrar in charge of the University’s Relations Office, Vincent Ankamah-Lomotey said aside from the postponement of the re-opening date the Health Services Directorate of the University has produced educative materials such as handbills, brochures and posters to sensitise members of the university community on the mode of transmission, effects and prevention of the deadly virus.

He said apart from posting information about the indefinite rescheduling of the start of the next academic year, the administration has also sent text messages to all the students to inform them of the decision.

Mr. Ankamah-Lomotey said in case any of the students does not get the message and therefore reports to school earlier, the university is prepared to accommodate him or her but said no arrangement has been made for screening of any foreign students who arrive.

The URO said the expectation of the management is that all foreign students would undergo the appropriate screening at the country’s entry points, especially at Kotoka International Airport on arrival before they are allowed to go to their campuses.
