Presidential Election Is To Be Moved To November

Political Parties in Ghana are pushing for the date of the Presidential election to be moved to November in order for run-offs or election petition to be resolved before the winner is sworn into office.  

Currently the General Election is held on December 7. 

In case of run-off the transition from one government to the other becomes problematic because of the short time between the election and the date of inauguration. 

The parties are also calling for prosecution of election officials whose negligence undermines the efficient conduct of elections. 

These were concerns raised at a National Stakeholders Reform. 

A senior research fellow at the IEA Dr. Ransford Gyampo who made the presentation on behalf of the political parties asked the Electoral Commission to be more open and transparent in its relations with the political parties. 

Dr. Gyampo rejected the tendencies where constituencies are created in election years.
