KNUST Reschedules Re-opening for 2014-2015 Academic Year Indefinitely

The Management of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology has rescheduled indefinitely, the re-opening date for the first semester of the 2014-2015 academic year. 

The decision was reached at an Executive Management meeting in Kumasi.The Deputy Registrar in charge of the University’s Relations Office, Ankama-Lomotey, made this known to GBC’s Garden City Radio in Kumasi. 

According to Mr. Ankamah-Lomotey, the decision to postpone the re-opening was influenced by the industrial action declared by members of the University Teachers’ Association of Ghana, UTAG, as well as to put in place measures to avert outbreak of the deadly Ebola disease when its foreign students return from the vacation. 

The KNUST has over 45 thousand students out of which more than one thousand are foreigners some of who are citizens of the Ebola-endemic West African countries. 

Meanwhile, the Director of the University’s Health Services, Dr. Yaw Bio has hinted to GBC’s Garden City Radio that the University will this week announce a new comprehensive policy about how the University intends to handle its foreign students as part of proactive measures to avert the Ebola disease on the campus upon re-opening.
