GBC Board & Management Approach Government On Increment in TV license

At the just ended GBC's 2014 midyear review at Dodowa, Management and Board mentioned that they have approached government to consider increasing the new TV license fee to meet the current economic situation.

Other topical issues raised was how GBC would wean itself of government subvention.

Meanwhile, The Deputy Minister of Communications, Ato Sarpong, says GBC is well positioned to be on its feet financially without government's support. 

He told Radio Ghana that government is in talks with Management and Board of the Corporation to come out with measures that will make the organisation self-sufficient as it prepares to wean itself from government subvention by close of next year. 

Some staff of the Corporation have however expressed mixed reactions about the decision to wean GBC off government subvention. 

While some support the move, others feel GBC cannot take care of itself because the Corporation has been under government subvention since its inception and that GBC cannot cater for staff salaries and allowances and other expenses. 

Those were views of some staff of GBC on the decision to wean the Corporation off government subvention.
