Call For Speedy Passage of Broadcasting Bill into Law as GBC Marks 79th Anniversary

The President of Ghana Writers Association Kwasi Gyan Apenteng is
advocating the establishment of full public Service Broadcasting in
Ghana. 

He said full public Service Broadcasting can be achieved if
the broadcasting bill is passed into law. 

Speaking at 79th GBC Anniversary Lecture at Broadcasting House, Mr Apenteng added his voice to calls for a speedy passage of the Broadcasting law.

But before the Broadcasting bill is passed Mr. Apenteng is suggesting the implementation of an African Charter on broadcasting.

He also suggested the Establishment of a Broadcasting Foundation to manage a Broadcasting fund.

In a related development, the Chairman of the National Media Commission, Kabral Blay Amihere has lauded the State Broadcaster GBC for its role in
propagating the ethics of true journalism. 

Speaking at the 79th anniversary lecturers of the corporation at Broadcasting House in Accra, Mr. Blay Amihere heaped special praise on the corporation for sustaining the Human Resource base of Broadcasting in the country by training numerous journalists and technicians who today hold the fort of broadcasting in the country. 

Mr. Blay Amihere was happy that despite its challenges GBC continues to fulfill its constitutional mandate of providing equal access of the public media to all parties without discrimination. 

He is hopeful that the transition to a digital age next year will represent a
new chapter for the corporation.
