President Mahama to Lunch National Climate Change Policy and National Environment Policy in Accra


President John Dramani Mahama will on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 launch the National Climate Change Policy and the National Environment Policy in Accra.

The Policy Documents are Ghana’s integrated response to climate change, prepared and designed within the context of national sustainable development priorities. 

This was contained in a statement issued in Accra by the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation and copied to the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC).

The statement which was signed by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Alhaji Zakari Musah says the policy documents will clearly defined the pathway for dealing with emerging environmental challenges within the current socio-economic context of Ghana and also the opportunities and benefits of a green economy. 

According the statement, the National Climate Change Policy and National Environment Policy was developed and approved by Cabinet in June 2013.

LAUNCH OF NATIONAL CLIMATE CHANGE POLICY AND ENVIRONMENT POLICY DOCUMENTS

The Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation will launch the National Climate Change Policy and the National Environment Policy on Tuesday, July 22, 2014 at the Accra International Conference Centre at 10.00am.

His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana, will be the Guest of Honour and perform the launching.

The Ministry has been keen to ensuring that the development agenda of Government, responds to the emerging trends of Environmental destruction and Global Warming.

The prioritisation areas of the climate change policy, would improve food security, increase the resilient of infrastructure and communities, improve environmental management practices and ecosystems for greater biodiversity, optimise key socio-economic factors and achieve more efficient systems for improved economic growth.

In pursuance to achieve the above, the Ministry has developed the National Climate Change Policy and National Environment Policy which were approved by Cabinet in June 2013.

The Policy Documents are Ghana’s integrated response to climate change, prepared and designed within the context of national sustainable development priorities. 

The policy documents provide clearly defined pathway for dealing with emerging environmental challenges within the current socio-economic context of Ghana and looks ahead to the opportunities and benefits of a green economy.

It is important to note that the issue of climate change is a global challenge that requires a concerted effort by all nations. It is for this reason that the documents went through several stakeholders’ national consultation steadily and analytically in order to make it accurate and fine-tuned before their usage.

The Ministry will continue to play its critical role in the socio-economic development of the country through the formulation of sound policies and regulatory framework of promoting the use of appropriate environmentally friendly, scientific and technological practices.
